JJ took her time getting the door open. In one arm, she held their charge, who hadn't stopped crying yet. In her other, she juggled her keys, and a few bags of groceries. "Lizzie...Spencer will come for you. He's going to make sure you're safe." Eventually, the agent got her door open. Setting the toddler down, she took her hand gently.
I don't know how Spencer does it, Jj thought. He's got some serious patience. Taking a breath, and letting it out, JJ took Lizzie into the guest room. “How about a nice nap?” She suggested, hoping the three year old would take the hint.
“Not that word...” Spencer's voice cut in. The young man appeared in the doorway.
“Don't scare me like that!” JJ exclaimed, taking the hand off the holster to her gun hidden beneath her blouse. She watched, frowning as the little girl climbed off the bed, and into Spencer's arms. “She does look tired...”
“I got this.” Spencer said. “Why don't you go get us some coffee on?” He smiled softly as JJ headed for the kitchen.

There was one thing Jennifer wanted more than anything, and that was a child. The idea that she hadn't been enough to keep Elizabeth content bothered her. She listened to her friend now, calming the girl, and the child's sobs slowly subsiding into hicupping sobs.
JJ got the coffee machine set to make twelve cups of Folgers before moving to check the couch for anything that didn't belong where males could see it. Even though Spencer was a good friend, she still didn't want him to see certain things like underwear or left over food. The woman was known to leave Chinese food boxes around sometimes when they were really busy
She was just getting finished getting the creamer out when Spencer's silhouette appeared in the doorway. “I'm not very good with kids, Reid...”
“It's alright... you don't have to apologize.” Spencer said. JJ turned to face him. He leaned against the door frame, his arms crossed casually. With the addition of his glasses, the young agent hardly looked older than twenty, even though he'd just had his thirtieth birthday.
JJ nodded. “She's really fond of you.”
“I know.” Reid replied. “I'm not sure if it's good or bad, though. This thing with me keeping her.. was supposed to be temporary.”
“Do you want it to be temporary?” She asked. JJ turned, as the coffee finished brewing. She poured one cup. “Two sugar, right?” She asked.
“Yeah.” Reid said. “I don't want to see her go into a situation where she has to learn to trust all new people. Something like this could traumatize her for life, you know.” He smiled as JJ handed him the mug of coffee. “Thanks.”
